Sasha's Window: December 2007

Happy Christmas . . .

Spent Christmas Eve with the Mraz/Hanson gang. . . Mike, his sister Kate, her hubby and kids, their parents, and a couple more . . . We had pizza, opened a few gifts and played games. Nice and relaxing. Bink came home with me for a sleepover and then we were back to Kate's in the morning for more presents and breakfast. I wasn't expecting gifts at all, but they all included me just like one of the family. Nice to have friends that think of me that way, especially when my family is all so far away.

We finally got some more snow so me and the boys had a nice walk in about 4-5 inches of fresh powder with snow flakes falling as we went. Shoveled my driveway and am now just going to bum around the house for a while. I'm having dinner with my friend Heather and her family tonight. . .

I hope whatever you may be doing, you are pausing to think about all the stuff that really matters most . . . family, friends, love . . . I wish you a very happy day with all of that in it!

Only in Alaska

This man raised an abandoned moose calf with his horses, and believe it or not, he has trained it for lumber removal and other hauling tasks. Given the 2,000 pounds of robust muscle, and the splayed, grippy hooves, he claims it is the best work animal he has. He says the secret to keeping the moose around is a sweet salt lick . . . Pretty cool, eh?

Hope you're getting ready for a relaxing holiday weekend. As for me, I'll be home in Alaska and spending lots of time at home. I have some house projects to tackle and can't wait to spend some time reading in front of the fire. I have a book to finish and another waiting in line. Christmas Day I've been invited to a friend's house for dinner, but I'll also spend some time with my Alaska family, the Mraz's. We're supposed to get 8 inches of snow in the next few days, so maybe I'll get a ski in too. Should be a nice 4 day weekend.
